Hello!

I was wondering if there is a way to add some custom "components" to the file naming system. We at Philzuid have a certain way of naming our files, and I would like to keep working with this system. I'll break it down with an example where I'll use Violin 1 from Schubert's 9th Symphony.

This is the way we would name that now:
2526 E41 a Schubert 9th Symphony Violin 1
Explanation:
Season --- Series --- a = PlayerWithinOrchestraLETTER --- ComposerLastName --- Title --- PartInstruments

So, to sum it up, I'd like to add the 'season', the 'series' and I'd like to replace the PlayerWithinOrchestraNumber with Letters. (Once we get to the end of the alphabet, it would go "x - y - za - zb - zc" ...)

Is there a way to already do this, or can I kindly request to add something like this in the future?

Hi Kristof,

There's no way to do either of these (numbers as letters or the additional fields) currently but both a very doable.

I would add two new fields to the work details for season and series which would populate the new season and series work components.

For the numbers as letters, the way this is typically done is that you number from a-z and the next iteration is aa-az, and then ba-bz etc. Would this work for you? Or is there a specific reason for going from y to za?

Cheers

Chris

Hey Chris

That would be awesome if that could get implemented!

The reason why we do x-y-z-za-zb-zc-... is because x-y-z-aa-ab-... messes up the order. If you do this, you'll get Violin 1 on top (because that is part a), followed by Percussion 3 for example, if that one is part aa. Opas Online is especially weird about this, "aa" will even be placed above "a" in Opas Online.

That's why we don't use "z" but directly jump to "za".

None of this is a real drama of course, but aren't we all a little bit perfectionists as librarians? 😆
